Privacy
Plain words about what Olytis keeps, where it goes, and what we will never do with it.
Last updated October 20, 2026
The short version
- We never sell, rent or share your information. Not with advertisers, not with other groups, not with anyone. The few services that run the site for us (listed below) handle it only to do that job.
- Your email is used only for the circle: the study circle schedule, invitations to calls, and occasional updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- You can ask us to delete your account and everything we hold about you. Write to olytiscircle@gmail.com.
- No ads and no tracking. There are no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts anywhere on the site.
- Everything on Olytis is free, membership included. There is nothing to buy, so we never ask for payment details.
What we keep, and why
Only what you choose to send us. Most of the site (the Daily Study Chamber, the Hours, the Rose Library, the calls) works without telling us anything at all.
- Join the List
Your email address, and your name if you give it. We use it to write to you about the circle.
- Ask a Question
Your email (so we can reply), your name and topic if you give them, and your question. Only the Olytis team reads it, and we reply by email.
- How forms reach us
Both forms are handled by Netlify Forms, which stores each submission and emails it to our inbox, olytiscircle@gmail.com (a Gmail account). Netlify screens submissions for spam automatically.
- Member accounts
If you join, your account holds your email, your name if you give it, the date you joined, and your password, which Netlify stores scrambled (hashed), so no one at Olytis can see it. Accounts run on Netlify Identity.
Netlify sends the account emails (confirm your address, reset your password) from no-reply@netlify.com.
- Settings saved to your account
When you are logged in, a few small settings are saved to your account so they follow you to other devices: your Rose or Dark theme, your Chamber profile and feature choices, your Hours place, time zone and clock, your Rose Library text size, line spacing and page tone, and the last book and section you opened in the Library.
Your Chamber profile can include your display name, birth date, and the birth time and place if you entered them (the Chamber uses them for its cycles). If you would rather not keep them in your account, don’t log in on that device, or ask us to delete your account.
Your Hours journal, dream notes and check-ins are not saved to your account. They stay in your own browser.
What stays in your browser
The practice tools remember things for you in your own browser’s storage (called localStorage). This stays on your device, and we never see it unless you are logged in and it is one of the settings listed above.
- Your theme, your Chamber profile, features and read-aloud voice, and your Hours place, clock and day records (journal, dreams, check-ins).
- Your Rose Library text size, line spacing and page tone, read-aloud voice, speed and listening place, and the last section you opened. The Library also keeps its books on your device so it can work offline.
- Small notes for the site itself, such as whether you closed the “Join free” note.
When you log in, Netlify Identity keeps you signed in with one cookie (nf_jwt) and a copy of your account details in the same browser storage. Logging out removes them. To clear everything else, use your browser’s “clear site data” for this site.
Services that help run the site
These are the only outside services the site uses. Each has its own privacy policy.
- Netlify
Hosts the site, the forms and member accounts. Like any web host, its servers see the basic details of each visit (such as your IP address and browser) in order to deliver the pages.
- Google Fonts
Pages load their two typefaces (Cinzel and EB Garamond) from Google’s font servers, so your browser connects to Google, which sees your IP address.
- Google sign-in
Only if you choose “Continue with Google” when it is offered. Google then shares your name, email address and profile picture link with your Olytis account.
- Gmail
Our inbox, olytiscircle@gmail.com, is a Gmail account, so the form emails and anything you write to us are held by Google.
- Open-Meteo
When you search for a town in the Chamber or the Hours, the name you type is sent to Open-Meteo’s free place-search service to find its coordinates. “Use my location” in the Hours stays in your browser.
- Jitsi Meet
The study circle calls run on meet.jit.si. Our pages only link to the room; once you join, you are on Jitsi’s service.
- Google Calendar
Only if you click “Add to Google Calendar” on a session. The “.ics” download is made in your browser and sends nothing.
- Read-aloud voices
Read-aloud uses the voices built into your browser or device. Some browsers’ online voices send the text being read to the browser’s maker (for example Google or Microsoft) to speak it.
No ads, no tracking
There are no ads on Olytis, no analytics or tracking scripts, no social-media pixels, and no tracking cookies. The only cookie the site sets is the log-in cookie above, and only when you log in. Netlify’s optional visitor analytics is not switched on for this site.
Links to other websites (for example on the Fellow Travelers page) take you to sites with their own policies.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe: reply to any of our emails, or write to olytiscircle@gmail.com, and we will take you off the list.
- Delete your account and data: write to olytiscircle@gmail.com from the address you signed up with. We will delete your account, its saved settings, and your list and form entries, and tell you when it’s done.
- See or correct what we hold: ask us at the same address. You can change your name and password yourself under My account.
- Keep it all on your device: you never need an account to use the practice tools or the library.
If anything here changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. Questions are always welcome at olytiscircle@gmail.com.
