The daily thread
Head, heart, hand: tap whichever was given a little care today. One is plenty, and a missed day never breaks the thread. Kept on this device (and in your account, if you are a member).
A daily practice in five small parts
This page gathers the few things worth noticing each day, and keeps them simple. Nothing here predicts your day. Each part is an invitation to pause, look, and choose how you want to meet the hours ahead.
The meditation of the day
The Meditations book holds twenty-six symbolic images, each with a short practice of one to seven minutes. They are arranged as a four-week calendar: a Begin day on the first Monday, one meditation each day after that, and a Review day at the end. Everyone on the shared calendar is on the same page on the same day, so you can practice alone and still be in step with others.
The moon phase
The moon’s phase is the share of its face lit by the sun as we see it, which changes through a cycle of about 29.5 days. Many traditions tie the waxing half to beginnings and the waning half to finishing and letting go. The moon page shows today’s phase, its illumination, the next new and full moon, and one short practice for the phase.
The planetary hour and day
The old system of planetary hours splits daylight and night into twelve hours each, so the hours are longer in summer days and shorter in winter ones. Each hour is given to one of the seven classical planets in a fixed order, and each day of the week takes its name from the planet of its first hour. The planetary hours calculator shows the full table for your place.
Sunrise and sunset
Sunrise and sunset frame the planetary day, and they make natural moments to pause: a breath at first light, a moment at noon, a settling at dusk. Times are worked out in your browser for the place shown above.
A card of the day
One card from the twenty-two Major Arcana, drawn once a day. Read it as a mirror, not a forecast: what does this image ask you to notice today? Your draw is the same one the Daily Study Chamber shows on this device.
Questions
Do I need an account to use this page?
No. Everything on this page is free and works without an account. A free membership simply saves your settings and practice across your devices.
Why does my planetary hour differ from another site?
Planetary hours start at your local sunrise, so they depend on where you are. This page uses the place shown at the top: set yours on the planetary hours page. Small differences of a minute or two come from how sunrise is defined.
Is the card of the day random?
Yes. The twenty-two Majors are shuffled and one card is drawn, upright or reversed, once per day. The draw is kept in this browser, so the card stays the same all day, here and in the Daily Chamber.
When does a new day begin?
At midnight on your calendar. The meditation and the card change at midnight; the planetary day changes at sunrise, as it always has.
